Haven – Jump In

The Haven Church team experiences their culture day, enjoying the beauty of Abaco, and learning to “jump in” wherever God is calling them.

Today was our culture day, which means we got to go out into the community not to serve but to experience God’s beauty in Abaco.

One of our main jobs on this trip is to put in 9 new doors. You would think this would be a simple job…but it has included chiseling out old cement, creating door frames, and trying to install straight doors in a crooked opening. Knowing that we might not have time to complete this job with all its hurdles, Jim and Dann asked to stay back and work towards this goal and miss our relaxing day out.

Our first adventure of the day was the Blue Hole. This is a freshwater, over 70-degree swimming hole where we, as a team, took a leap together and jumped in! Not all feet first, but with creative twists, flips, and dives!

Picnic tables with our feet in the sand are where we got to enjoy local seafood at Pete’s Pub. The beautiful blue hues of the water with the backdrop of the sailboats docked in the marina were stunning! Again enjoying jumping into conversations and continuing to grow in our friendships with each other.

This week has been physically exhausting! So our next beach with its, once again, pristine turquoise water and extensive white sand beach, was the perfect location to relax and rejuvenate. Some of us might have gotten so relaxed that we started to snooze. We were suddenly startled as Evie was attacked by something moving and poking her as she laid down on her towel. She jumped up to find a crab crawling around under her towel, and Sam jumped to her rescue, catching it with his hat.

As we drove into camp at the end of our adventure, seeing beautiful Abaco, we were amazed to see not just a couple of doors hung, but Jim and Dann had hung the rest of the 9 doors! Before we left in the morning, we had asked if there was anything we could do to help prepare and make the job go smoothly. Dann’s quick answer was to pray! We did; we prayed for God’s favor and help for them. Wow, God! At dinner Dann had shared that they were exhausted and not sure they had the strength for the cleanup. But again, God had our team jump in, and as Dave has repeatedly reminded us, Many Hands make light work!

Just as we all jumped in today in our unique ways, God calls each of us to “jump in” to where He is calling us. Listen, and don’t be afraid to follow His nudge. We are glad we did.
