Join the Kairos team in Abaco for day two! Today, Addi and Lauren take us on a delicious journey through the Marsh Harbour Farmers Market, offering insights into Bahamian cuisine and island life.
After loading up our truck full of supplies this morning, our first stop was the Marsh Harbour Farmers Market. We tried an assortment of local foods including, conch salad, conch fritters, mini pizzas, crab wontons, cinnamon and guava buns, freshly made fruit drinks, and the produce we harvested yesterday.
Overall, we have been very impressed with the food so far on the island. A few of us even got some Bahamian currency from the farmers market which we thought was a perfect souvenir for our time here.
Later this morning we visited the community center and saw the progress that our Kairos group worked on last year during this trip. It was cool to see the progress and impact that the community center has had on Abaco. We headed over to the Saunders property to meet Ms. Nicole. We will forever be grateful for the story she shared with us and how she welcomed us with open arms into her home. She is a great example of how we can remain faithful to God even through the toughest of times. While in her home, we sanded down all the walls to prepare for painting tomorrow. Evan was the last man “sanding” and didn’t even want to stop for lunch. A career of carpentry is clearly in his future.
While at dinner, we caught up on the day and shared many laughs together. As we are writing this, Bri tried catching a Lizard and may have caused the tail to fall off. HA, oops! We discussed how important community is and the willingness to share stories with others. The opportunity to talk with Ms. Lula and Ms. Doreen was very impactful as well. Our eyes have been opened to so many experiences of those on the island, and have really made the value of our time here known. We’ve only been here two days, but it feels like we’ve been here forever…in the most incredible way!
We are ending our night with group worship! Rumor has it, Evan is still “sanding.”
Psalm 118:24
“This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
We enjoyed writing this and we hope you enjoy reading it,
