Enlarging Our Territory

The Crossroads Church–Norwalk IMPACT team had another busy, yet impactful day serving alongside those in Abaco. Matthew and Brandi share about their time at Driftwood Farms, an agricultural partner of Many Hands’, and about a youth group they attended at Kirk of the Pines Church.

We started the morning with a devotion about enlarging our territory. God is so big and doing things everywhere all the time. He wants us to join Him and work through us. He isn’t waiting for us to change to be able to use us and to touch the world through us. We are to always be looking for that larger territory and put God at the top of our minds and first in our lives. God expanded our territory by bringing us to Driftwood Farms for the first part of the day, then by immersing us in the culture of the youth of Abaco at Kirk of the Pines.

Driftwood Farms partners with Many Hands and is a hydroponic farm that has a mission to bring fresh produce and eggs to the island at a fair price and sell directly to customers.  We spent the day harvesting and packing a variety of produce to be taken to customers and to sell at the local farmer’s market. The owners, Glen and Tracy, have a big heart for the people of Abaco, also providing a safe haven for displaced families after Hurricane Dorian in 2019. It was a blessing to serve alongside them for the day and hear how they want to teach others the skills of hydroponic farming to expand the impact further.

Our last stop of the day was to Kirk of the Pines, one of the many churches on Abaco. We were able to interact with the youth group with kids ages 11 to 18. Most kids have to figure out a way to attend on their own, with many getting on a bus the church uses to gather the kids (filled to over-capacity!).

It was impactful to see so many kids choosing to be there and seeking the Lord with joy. After some free play and a message, we studied Colossians 3:1-4 with the children.

This reminded us again to put our focus on things above, rather than earthly things, which brought us back to the devotion of growing our territory by focusing on God and where He would lead us.
