Kids playing outside at Camp Abaco

Our team welcomed the children from Many Hands Reading and Math Camp to Camp Abaco this morning. Lisa equipped us with reading and math games to play with the children during study time. We also enjoyed story time with Mary Hain! Mary directed all of us in a reenactment of Jesus Calms the Storm, encouraging us to bring the story to life. The children were the wind and water and learned through the giggles that “Jesus can do anything He puts His mind to”. Spending time with these children and learning their stories and hardships it was amazing to see joy on their faces and watch them just being kids for a few hours without worrying about their circumstances.

A game of checkers

In the second half of our day we partnered with the First Assemblies of God Church to distribute a food blessing to five families in Murphy Town and Dundas Town. Pammy from Assembly introduced us to these amazing folks. We were blessed to pray with each one after hearing their accounts of Dorian. We met an angel named Sheena, as a single mother of an 18-year-old son with Autism she has weathered more than one storm. Sheena lost her husband 7 years ago, fought to survive the water and the wind of the hurricane barely escaped during the eye of the storm and shortly after lost her mother to breast cancer, all while she was fighting to keep her home. Her unwavering strength and faith that God would provide and carry them through is truly inspiring. After all that Sheena filled with the Holy Spirit blessed us by praying for us with such reverence and power that we will never be able to forget her or that moment. We are empowered and driven by God’s beauty in His people we met today. God is the way maker, the miracle worker and the light in the darkness.
