The boys group at Mrs. Saunder's house

Today we split into two groups. The guys went to the Saunders’ home to clean up their lawn while the girls went to the community center to finish up the painting. At the Saunders’ home, the group on Saturday finished cutting almost all the grass and weeds. Today, we finished loading the grass, weeds, and debris onto trailers to be taken to the dump. They also made a few final touches by cutting down a couple of trees and touching up around the house and fence. Mrs. Saunders came and helped work.  She was extremely thankful for all the time and effort we put into helping her with her home. Even though today wasn’t full of much work, it was still really exciting to see the final outcome of all of the days leading up to now. We had started this project earlier this week and today was just touching up. As a part of the group that started the project, it is extremely exciting to see what all we can do in a day’s work, especially when 12 boys work on it all at the same time.

Finishing cleaning up at Mrs. Saunder's

On Saturday, we had help from many different people from the community, from the local pastor to a 13-year-old boy. It really shows how much a community cares when it comes together to improve the life of someone else in the community. With the grass being as tall as we are and trees that have fallen over. We know that the family appreciates every single thing that the community has done for them. Although we were able to finish the job, we did not do the work by ourselves. We had many volunteers and others who came and joined in to help; we couldn’t have done it without the prayers of our friends and family.

Painting the library

The girls and Chad had a lot of fun doing final touch-ups on the former library. We needed ladders to reach the highest points of the building to be able to paint it. It was amazing to be able to see the finished product and to know the impact that the building would have on the community. After lunch, we had some free time. Some kids chose to go out on the water on paddle boards while others went swimming and others relaxed. Before and after supper, everyone took their turn sharing their IMPACT Story.

Although we worked hard the whole week we were able to be a part of an awesome experience and witness something new and different. We had a very eventful week and we were definitely able to take advantage of this experience. It’s amazing to look around and to see all the beauty around us and what God has created.  This trip has impacted all of us and we pray we will live out our story.  Tomorrow, we leave to fly back home to see our families and share about the experiences we had here.
