Home / Standing on the Shoulders – A New Book from Tim Brand
“After Tim tells you Denny’s story, you too will stand a little taller , and your life will never be the same.”
About the Book
There is a proverb that states:
“We see further because we are
standing on the shoulders of giants.”
Each of us has a question to answer: Will we choose to live a life for others to stand on our shoulders or leave behind the rubble of brokenness for others to clean up? For Tim Brand, this came to a head when his father, Denny, was living his last months of life.
Guiding us through this inspiring true-story of love, hope, and redemption, Tim shares his father’s journey. Life’s greatest gifts are revealed, exploring the deeper questions of what it means to live a good life and how to leave a legacy for future generations.
Written with vulnerability and compassion, Standing on the Shoulders is a beautiful chronicle of their time together. It is a book that will stay with you long after you finish reading it, inspiring you to live your own life to the fullest and to make a difference in the world.
“After Tim tells you Denny’s story, you too will stand a little taller , and your life will never be the same.”

I’ve shared a deeply personal story with you, as when we let God’s light shine through us, others get illuminated in their darkness. Our stories carry the power to help others on their journey. When I tell stories, I use a simple 4-part method.
1. REFLECT on what has happened in the past. What is surfacing from your past that you believe needs to be told?
2. Then move to EXPECT, which means understanding your emotions around this story, your expectations in telling it, and your desires for others receiving the story. The clearer you can be in this section, the better you can frame your story.
3. Next, nail down the CONNECT section, which is truly the heart of the story. Understanding what has happened and having a clear picture of your desires for telling this story, you now can connect those two parts into something tangible for others. Target a 5-minute story, as remember, this is a gift to another person so be sensitive to their ability to stay focused. Don’t try to say everything, but focus on the one-thing you want them to walk away with.
4. Lastly, be firm to COMMIT. Where will you tell this story? Which medium do you think is best to properly communicate the story to others (written, video, pictures, in-person)? Whatever you commit to, stick to it. People need to hear your authentic voice. Target a 5-minute story, as remember, this is a gift to another person so be sensitive to their ability to stay focused. Don’t try to say everything, but focus on the one-thing you want them to walk away with.
