Building Relationships and Memories

Team and students at a local school chapel planning for their field day.

Today Team Reading went to Agape Christian School. Our experience at Agape started with chapel and a couple of fun games that we played with the Agape students. Agape plans a field day for their last day before their Easter Break which we were invited to participate in. This field day consisted of lots of team games. There was knockout, head shoulders cup, and nuke ‘em (a catch/throw game played on a volleyball net). It was great getting the chance to interact and just have fun with some of the local kids our age. After we finished playing the games we headed back to Camp Abaco where we had a quick bite to eat and headed back out again to tour the hydroponics farm that Team Math toured on Tuesday. Glen Kelly shared about the history of the farm, teaching us all about hydroponic farming, and the fresh produce they grow – from kale to bananas.

Team Math finally got their turn with the children from Central Abaco Primary School. The first thing that we did was play games outside for the kids to get out all their energy. We played jump rope, basketball, hopscotch, and volleyball. Shortly after that, we went inside and the kids got some breakfast and their team color. We each got assigned our groups and got to know the kids. We started playing a few simple math games for the kids to learn and made some small talk as we got to know each of the kids’ personalities, some sassy, but all very energetic and fun. After a few games we had a little Bible lesson and then we had lunch. The reading group came back to join us all for lunch and say hi to some of the same kids that they were able to see on Tuesday. After lunch we played a few more games and then we let the kids play again outside. Then we played a game in the water which led to everyone getting almost soaked in the water. We commemorated our time with the kids by taking pictures and laughing at the memories we made. Sam & Lisa Berg encouraged us to join them on the bus to take the kids home, giving us a better look into the lives of the kids. It was really beautiful to see how all of these kids have gone through so much and yet they are still as happy as can be.
