Culture Day

A bit of fun around the island was the perfect way for Pella Christian to spend their culture day.

Waiting for lunch at Pete's Pub

We started our day by watching the beautiful sunrise, whether that was on a kayak or on the shore. We packed up and loaded into the vans and drove to Little Winding Bay. On our walk to the beach, we also saw a PGA golf course. Many of us took off our shoes and stepped onto the beach. We swam for at least an hour and a half. The water was blue and crystal clear. The boys swam, played football, and they buried Liam.

Around 12, we packed back up and headed to Pete’s Pub for lunch. Pete’s Pub is right on the water, and all the tables are in the sand. We ordered food and a drink. Many ordered the cracked conch tacos, shrimp and lobster tacos, or the grouper sandwiches. There were also non-seafood options such as hamburgers and chicken sandwiches. While we were waiting for our food, many of us found hermit crabs. Keegan named one Jack, Devan named one Timothy, and Brynlee found a whole family of hermit crabs. We then ate our food, and many of us got pies for dessert. They had cookies and cream, turtle, and lemon pie. It was very delicious.

Lining up for food at Driftwood Farms

We also spent the afternoon at the marina near Pete’s Pub. Some of the boys played 500 in the water. A 10 year old boy also played with the boys, and he was very excited to play with the older boys. The other boys played ‘The Game’ on a picnic table while the girls played garbage next to them.

We then loaded back in the vans and set off to driftwood farms. Once we got there, we instantly started to play beach volleyball. After a while, they split us into mixed teams of Americans and Bahamians. We played tournament-style sand volleyball with double elimination. After a while, it started to get dark, so they pulled cars around and used their headlights to shine into the court so that we could continue to play. We then ate hamburgers, chips, dessert, and a pop. Some of these pops are local to the Bahamas, and they are very good. After the tournament was over, we played some more sand volleyball. Around 8, we cleaned up and headed back to camp.

A volleyball game win

When we got back to camp, we did our impact journals, and now most of us are going to go to bed.

Today showed us that God’s creation is beautiful through the different colors in the ocean and the beautiful sunrise. It showed us that God’s creation is so much more than just Pella, Iowa, and that we need to remember that when we get back home. We were also very grateful for all the people who welcomed us tonight at the volleyball tournament and to the Kellys for opening their home to us over the past few days.
