Enjoying God’s Creation

Today was the Celebrate Church team’s Culture Day with Many Hands IMPACT. They spent the day experiencing the natural beauties of Abaco and embracing the culture within the community!

After a couple of days of hard work, today we had a chance to relax, have a little fun together, and experience different parts of God’s creation and of Abaco.

Kate’s devotion to start our day reminded us that we have been given the opportunity to reflect God’s light in this world – something we’re hoping to do during our time here.

We headed off the camp for our first stop, the Blue Hole.  This several hundred-foot deep, freshwater pool in the middle of an Abaco Pine forest was a fun place to relax in the water and see the group’s acrobatic diving displays.  The Blue Hole stop was highlighted by an eight-person coordinated cannonball.

Lunch at Pete’s Pub was once again delicious with a wide range of orders from Mahi Mahi and shrimp/lobster tacos to hamburgers and chicken. We all had fun exploring the marina there and seeing the rougher waves on the other side of Pete’s. Our long lunch was capped off by jumping off the dock just seconds after spotting a nurse shark.

After lunch, we made a short drive to a beach located on the beautiful Winding Bay. We snorkeled and caught a couple of conch for our friend, Mrs. Saunders. Some of the team made the walk down the beach to see the open Atlantic. This capped a day out seeing incredible examples of God’s handiwork through the unique landscapes of Abaco.

Our day wrapped up with burgers prepped by Russ and Big Mike and a great devo from Mike Bender.  On a side note, Bender’s bad luck with animals in Abaco continued – first he nearly lost his life to a giant barracuda, then today he was viciously attacked by perhaps the largest land crab ever seen in the Bahamas (by our very own standards).  Fortunately, both Bender and Mike Cranmer prevailed over the crab and are ready for more tomorrow.

On another note, we all ate ice cream 🙂

Glad for a fun, relaxing day enjoying each other and God’s creation.  Looking forward to a great day tomorrow!
