Haven – Throwing Your Stone

As the Haven Church team nears the end of their trip, they wrestle with the whys of life, recognizing that though it may not make sense to us, God has placed us purposefully where we are.

During our morning devotions, we were reminded that David killed Goliath by the power of God and the use of a mere slingshot. As a shepherd boy tending his sheep in the desert, David had years of training using his slingshot to protect his sheep. David walked boldly into battle with two things. The power of his Great God and the weapon he was skilled at using.

This week, we wrestled with the whys of life – between those who have and those who have not.  Why are we so blessed, and why do we have so much?  One team wisely responded, “So that we can honor God in giving to bless others.”

We also recognized that God calls us to lay our burdens on him.  God-sized problems always lead to God-sized answers, thus giving Him all the Glory!!!  He has purposefully placed each of us where we want to be in order for us to use our talents and resources to care for a broken world.

Tonight we shared our impact stories. Each person told of their fears, expectations, and chosen Bible verse as they prepared for the trip. This was followed by their stories of impact moments. as our work progressed throughout the week. This led the team to individually deepen their commitment to their relationship with God, fully trusting in His plan for our lives wherever he leads.

David was skilled at throwing his stone and killing a giant.  What giants do we have in our lives that need to be disposed of with God’s help?

Conversely, how can your faith in God help you boldly throw your stone to advance his kingdom wherever your feet are?
