Are you stepping out in faith to experience God’s goodness? The Newton Church of The Way IMPACT Team reflected on going outside their comfort zone to bless others, and in turn, realized that their “physical gift of food turned into a spiritual blessing for all.” Allyson, Jan, and Tricia’s message is encouraging to all.
Reading Picnic:
We began our Valentine’s Day celebrating love in action. We went back to CAPS to engage with the children and parents that came to the reading picnic. We read books together, did crafts together, and shared lunch together.
I (Tricia) had a heart-warming conversation with a Pastor’s wife, who specifically ministers to the Haitians on the island. Her love for Haiti was evident, and I don’t feel like it was a coincidence to cross paths with her today. It was also exciting to watch the smiles on the kids’ faces, partly for their new books and lunch, but mostly for the cupcakes that our youth made for them back at Camp Abaco.
Food Distributions:
Our team split into two groups and got to meet 10 families total, talking with and praying for them. One group had a “God appointment” when the opportunity presented itself to go pray for two young men who had just gotten in a car accident the night before, but did not have the means to receive health care. We got to pray for their necks/backs, and it was clear it was a blessing to both them and us.
The other van also got to meet the oldest man in “Murphy Town,” and he shared how he came to Abaco. He kept the team engaged as he shared the history of the island and his love for the Lord. They got to pray for his health, as well as his family living in a multi-generational home. One thing we all took away from the day was the peace, joy, and love that each family radiated, even in the midst of trials and tragedy. Our physical gift of food turned into a spiritual blessing for all.
Team Worship:
After our return to camp and a delicious dinner, our team gathered for our usual nightly Impact team debrief. However, this time we had a guitar and our teammate, Lucas, led us in a wonderful night of worshiping together in song.
As love in action usually is, today was a day of stepping outside of our comfort zones. Had we not stepped out in faith, we would have missed the opportunities to receive God’s blessings and goodness. Thank you for joining us in prayer for the people of Abaco. We can see the Lord’s Hand of Provision and Faithfulness.
