The Crossroads Church – Norwalk IMPACT team shares another day in their life in Abaco! Hear from Jodi and Jeff as they reflect on their time spent at the Central Abaco Primary School, the continued work on Zhivargo’s house, and more!
Greetings from Abaco! Our group had the privilege of having the Many Hands Thrift Store and Volunteer Managers join our team while we were here. This morning was our last joint breakfast so we took a minute to take a picture before we took off. We had lots of laughs together serving, eating and sharing stories around the campfire.
Our group has a gift of gab so once again we enjoyed our devotion time in the van ride to town. We call it using our time wisely. Our devotion was centered around living in the now–God uses us just as we are. Each and every one of us has different talents and skills that we can use to glorify God. We said, “Let’s be ready for the ‘left field’, as we don’t know the plans God has for us.” Only he does. My verse for the trip followed suit, Proverbs 16:9, ”We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” After devotion we enjoyed singing worship music together in the van.
We went back to Zhivargo’s home with the goal of finishing the siding on 2 sides and mudding/taping the inside.
We weren’t able to finish 100% of our goal but it was pretty darn close. At the completion of our day, we had the opportunity to pray over Zhivargo. It was so fun to have Zhivargo at the worksite the entire time we worked, even lifting a hand and most importantly sharing a smile just when we needed it.
Prior to lunch, half of the group went to Central Abaco Primary School (CAPS) where we handed out notebooks. Matthew 25 Ministries donated new notebooks to each of the students in grades 1-6. Last night we wrote a special encouraging note inside each notebook so I am sure the kids loved reading the different notes.
On the way back to camp, we swung by a local high school basketball game. It was a little different than we were used to and wow, amazing talent!
We ended the night with much needed showers and a spaghetti dinner! Yum!
