The Joy of God

Day five in Abaco for the LCOH-Revive IMPACT team was all about the JOY God has placed within every single one of them, as well as finding JOY in God’s Creation!

Hi family and friends! Today was day five in Abaco. It was all about loving abundantly and enjoying community. Today was all about culture and experiencing what Abaco has to offer. The only feeling I got from the end of the day was endless joy.

We started off by going to the local Abaco farmers market. This does not look like your typical Des Moines farmers market, if you are familiar with it. The Abaco market was refreshing and personal. Only six vendors total sell some of their sweet treats and produce. From fresh guava jam to avocados three times the size of typical US avocados.

After the market we got to venture to a few more trinket shops, similar to gift shops in a sense of cultural items that could be sold as souvenirs. After that, we went to the local grocery store and got to experience where Bahamians typically buy food. We also ended up eating lunch at a local restaurant called “Colors”. This consisted of amazing Bahamian food and some really good fruit punch a majority of us ordered.

After this we went to the gas station, filled up, and headed down south a bit. This consisted of a 15-20 minute drive to end up in the middle of the woods to this place we liked to call ‘The Blue Hole’. It was a fresh body of water that was in the middle of nowhere that went down 400 ft or more. We spent about two hours here. Whether that consisted of swimming, floating around or jumping & doing flips off the cliffs/edges. The Blue Hole was also known for its mini crabs that lived in the rocks of the cliff. The experience was beautiful and nothing like we had ever experienced. It was just amazing to see the things God creates in the middle of nowhere that we just so happen to stumble upon.

During our time from the farmers market to the Blue Hole, it was just clear that God’s love was in each and every one of us. The joy and laugher that was present in everyone, could be seen from any outside perspective looking in. The work God has done and is continuing to do is prevalent and we can’t wait to come back and share God’s everlasting love and joy with each of you.
