Third Family Trip – What A Day!

Father and daughter, Casey and Kamry Trine, reflect on day four of their trip in Abaco. It was a day packed full of different learning experiences for both of them!

Casey – This morning started with heavy hearts as Tim shared what was happening in Haiti. As we sat around the tables for devotion time we prayed for peace, protection, compassion, faith, trust and forgiveness and ended by singing Living Hope. Gotta be honest…I had to walk out to the beach to dry my eyes and have a minute with God. It’s hard to fathom what the people of Haiti are going through and what they have been through, but we know God is working there and will continue to show up for them.

A lot more work was accomplished at the Saunder’s house today. We’re getting really close to finishing up the plumbing and wiring, which is what we hoped to get done by the end of this week. One more day and I think we’ll get it wrapped up. That is good because I’m not sure Holden or I can take much more of the heat up in the rafters …it’s hot up there! Well maybe it’s just hot for me, I’m sure Holden can handle it better than I can. He’s a natural!

While at the house today the home owner came and helped out which was great. He works for the power company on the island and has a lot of useful knowledge on the wiring side of things.  He was a great help and had some neat tricks for getting the wire through some tight places. I’m sure he’s very appreciative of us being there but I’m gaining so much from being around him and the other people we’ve had the chance to spend some time with the past couple of days.

Kamry –  I started the day off with a little extra sleep 🙂 but after all the work we did at camp today I could have used a little more. I learned how to make and use quick-crete with Deb, Kameron, and Emerson. It took a little effort to get it to stay on the tops of the doorframes we were fixing, but we got it figured out and it was dry before we even finished everything.

Once we mastered the concrete work we wanted to make the view of the ocean more open from Camp Abaco, so we went to work pulling baby pine trees out of the sand. It took 5 of us, a heavy chain, a truck, and a whole lot of tries to get the job done. The trees are a bit more slippery than I thought they would be. Thankfully we got them all out.  After that we got to enjoy the beach for a while as we finished our jobs in record time 🙂

We had the second day of volleyball camp this afternoon and it was fun to see familiar faces from yesterday! Volleyball is not my favorite thing ever and only learned how to play 15 minutes before camp started. Thanks, A.J!  It was actually pretty fun. Might have to switch sports…

We also got a free yoyo lesson from Pastor Barrett’s son at the end. He’s so good he could be on Bahamas Got Talent, if that is a thing. If any of you want to learn how to yoyo just ask. On second thought maybe don’t I can’t even get it back up the line lol!

Day 2 of our Girl’s Volleyball Camp

From the start of our day to the end, we had the opportunity to serve and see God at work through the people on the trip with us and the people we’ve had the chance to meet.
